I was more excited that Marvel got one of my favourite actors, Mahershala Ali, to be the next Blade than anything else at their phase 4 announcement at SDCC. Even more excited than the Doctor Strange sequel, wickedly titled ‘Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness’. I mean, if that title doesn’t fire your rockets, what would? Thor 4? Nah, but I’m all for it. I know it’s going to be good and I know Doctor Strange 2 will be very good because of Scott Derrickson. But the fact that Marvel got a two-time Academy Award winner to star as what is essentially Marvel’s John Wick – an action-movie superhero with a deep backstory – is just such a brilliant bit of casting for what would essentially be a money maker regardless of the star. Why? Because since Taken most action movies are now big money in the global market. Unfortunately, the Blade movie with Ali isn’t going to be seen for another four to five years. Until then, may the moon rise red.
